The Czech Republic has 13 public holidays in 2027, and trucks over 7.5 t (over 3.5 t with a trailer) are banned from motorways and class I roads from 13:00 to 22:00 on every holiday and Sunday. Key weekday dates are 26 and 29 March, 5 and 6 July, 28 September and 28 October.
Is every Czech public holiday in 2027 a truck ban day?
Yes, all 13 of them. The ban sits in § 43 of zákon 361/2000 Sb. , which restricts trucks and special vehicles above 7,500 kg, and the same vehicles above 3,500 kg with a trailer, on "Sundays and other days of rest". The holidays act 245/2000 Sb. makes every state and other holiday a day of rest, so a holiday on a Saturday is a ban afternoon too. Some third-party lists show fewer ban days than this wording. The statute is what counts.
The 2027 dates are Friday 2027-01-01, Friday 2027-03-26, Monday 2027-03-29, Saturday 2027-05-01, Saturday 2027-05-08, Monday 2027-07-05, Tuesday 2027-07-06, Tuesday 2027-09-28, Thursday 2027-10-28, Wednesday 2027-11-17, Friday 2027-12-24, Saturday 2027-12-25 and Sunday 2027-12-26. Nine fall on a weekday.
Section 43 also lists exemptions, including perishable goods filling at least half of the cargo space, live animals, fuel for filling stations, combined rail or waterway transport, postal items and empty runs linked to these. As of 2026-11-06 the version of the statute we read is valid to 2026-12-31 and we found no announced change for 2027. Check each date against the Czech Republic 2027 holiday calendar before you fix a schedule.
Which 2027 holidays create the longest ban stretches?
July is the tightest month. The summer rules in § 43 apply from 1 July to 31 August, so the ban runs Friday 2 July from 17:00 to 21:00, Saturday 3 July from 07:00 to 13:00 and Sunday 4 July from 13:00 to 22:00. Monday 5 July and Tuesday 6 July then carry the holiday ban from 13:00 to 22:00. That is five consecutive days with a restricted window.
Easter is shorter. Good Friday 26 March, Easter Sunday 28 March and Easter Monday 29 March are ban afternoons, but Saturday 27 March has no ban. Christmas has no such gap: Friday 24, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 December are three ban afternoons in a row.
If your route crosses other borders, compare the 2027 truck driving bans across Europe before you fix the schedule.
Does the ban start on the eve of a holiday?
No. Section 43 names only Sundays, days of rest and the summer Friday and Saturday windows, so it contains no eve-of-holiday ban for trucks. A Friday evening is restricted only in July and August, or when the Friday is itself a holiday, as 24 December 2027 is.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Czech holiday ban apply to trucks under 7.5 t?
A solo truck of up to 7,500 kg maximum permitted mass is outside the ban. A truck above 3,500 kg with a trailer is inside it. The restriction covers motorways and class I roads only.
Is 24 December 2027 a truck ban day in the Czech Republic?
Yes. 24 December is one of the other holidays in § 2 of zákon 245/2000 Sb., so it is a day of rest, and the ban applies from 13:00 to 22:00. In 2027 it is a Friday and the first of three ban afternoons in a row.
Do the July and August weekend bans also apply?
Yes. From 1 July to 31 August, § 43 of zákon 361/2000 Sb. adds a Friday ban from 17:00 to 21:00 and a Saturday ban from 07:00 to 13:00. These come on top of the holiday and Sunday ban.
What is the fine for breaking the Czech truck ban?
Under § 125c of zákon 361/2000 Sb. the fine is 4,000 to 10,000 CZK in regular proceedings and 1,500 to 2,000 CZK when imposed on the spot.
