Germany's live truck parking map shows about 1,850 public Autobahn rest areas (Raststätten and Rastanlagen) and updates at most once a minute when occupancy changes. Green means spaces available, amber almost full, red full. The status is a toll-data estimate for the whole rest area, not a count of free bays.
How do I see live if a German rest area is full?
Open the free live truck parking map for German rest areas , which needs no login. It shows the Stellplatz-Informationsdienst (SID), the federal truck parking service that Toll Collect says went into regular operation on 2026-06-02.
First, zoom to your route. Second, tap the rest area you plan to use and read its pin colour. Third, pick a second rest area further along as a fallback. Colours change only when occupancy changes, so a pin shows the last reported state, not a guarantee.
The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMV) states that all roughly 1,850 rest areas on federal motorways are connected . Private operators such as an Autohof (a privately run truck stop at a motorway exit) have been able to register since 2026-08-06, but no count of registered sites is published. Our guide to what an Autohof offers truck drivers explains the difference.
What do the pin colours mean?
Three colours match the official SID states, and grey is a display choice on our map. The thresholds follow the Toll Collect methodology .
| Green (spacesAvailable) | Spaces are probably available; occupancy is below the first threshold. |
|---|---|
| Amber (almostFull) | Occupancy has reached the first threshold: the lower of regular capacity and 80 percent of regular plus tolerated capacity. |
| Red (full) | The capacity limit is reached or exceeded. |
| Grey | No current status. This is a map convention, not an official SID state. |
Treat amber as the cue to check your fallback and red as the cue to drive on. Grey tells you nothing. Plan as if you have no information.
How accurate is the display and what is missing?
The colour is an estimate for the entire rest area, based on German truck toll system information. The covered area includes driving lanes and surfaces that are not marked truck bays, and Toll Collect states that cars parked on truck bays are not compensated for. A rest area can therefore look greener than it feels.
The tool does not show individual bays, take bookings or forecast later occupancy. It covers public motorway rest areas only. Bundesstraßen are not covered. For sites without live status, browse truck parking in Germany .
Supply is the underlying problem: about 20,000 truck spaces were missing nationwide in 2023, according to the BMV . A colour helps you decide earlier. It cannot create a space. For the open-data side, read our guide to free SID truck parking data .
Frequently asked questions
How often is the occupancy updated?
At most once per minute, and only when occupancy changes at a rest area. A quiet site can keep one colour for a long time without the data being stale.
Does the map show free bays or only overall occupancy?
Only overall occupancy. The map shows one status for the whole rest area, with no per-bay view and no count of free spaces.
Are Autohöfe and Bundesstraßen included?
Bundesstraßen are not covered. Autohöfe can register since 2026-08-06, but no count of registered sites exists, so do not assume a given Autohof appears.
Does the service cost anything?
The map is free and needs no login. The underlying data is free through the federal Mobilithek, though retrieving it requires registration as an SID partner.
