On Sunday 1 November 2026, HGVs over 7.5 t are banned until 22:00 in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, France and Italy. Spain restricts all roads from 08:00 to 24:00. Poland bans vehicles over 12 t from 08:00 to 22:00. Austria, Hungary, France and Poland also ban on Saturday 31 October.

Hours were checked on 2026-10-17 against national legal texts where available; confirm national notices before departure.

Which countries ban trucks on Sunday 1 November 2026?

If your truck is in Germany, Austria, France or Italy that Sunday, it will stand still for most of the day. Hours and weight limits differ by country.

Country groupSunday 1 November 2026 rule
Germany, Austria, SlovakiaBan from 00:00 to 22:00 for HGVs over 7.5 t
Hungary, France, ItalyBan to 22:00 for HGVs over 7.5 t; Hungary and France start Saturday 22:00, Italy runs 09:00 to 22:00
PolandHoliday ban from 08:00 to 22:00 for vehicles over 12 t
SpainBan from 08:00 to 24:00 on all roads, usually over 7.5 t

The Czech ban is shorter. It runs only from 13:00 to 22:00 on motorways and first-class roads, and it applies to vehicles over 7.5 t or to vehicles over 3.5 t towing a trailer.

Is it a normal Sunday ban or an extra holiday ban?

For most countries it is the normal Sunday ban. The holiday changes nothing. In Germany, section 30 of the StVO bans commercial freight lorries over 7.5 t, and trailers behind them, on every Sunday from 00:00 to 22:00. You can check the Germany truck ban rules by state for state-level differences.

Poland is the clear holiday-only case. The consolidated regulation of 31 July 2007 (Dz.U. 2023 poz. 2423) lists 1 November as a ban day, with buses excluded.

Two other cases need care. The Czech Republic does not treat 1 November as a holiday, so only the Sunday rule applies. Portugal has a national holiday, but no general ban on ordinary goods was found, only a 00:00 to 24:00 ban on hazardous-goods vehicles. You can check public holiday dates by country before planning the week.

Do the bans start on Saturday 31 October?

In several countries, yes. If you plan a Saturday evening departure, check the eve rules first, because the ban may already be running by the time your driver reaches the border. Poland bans vehicles over 12 t from 18:00 to 22:00 on the eve. Hungary and France begin at 22:00.

Austria starts in the afternoon. Under section 42 of the StVO , lorries over 7.5 t are banned on Saturdays from 15:00 to 24:00. Luxembourg transit trucks over 7.5 t start at 21:30 towards France or 23:30 towards Germany.

Italy's hours rest on a secondary copy of the ministry calendar, and regional holidays on Monday 2 November were not checked. To look further ahead, plan around 2027 holiday truck bans .
