Many European truck stops, Autohöfe and motorway service areas have showers, and every certified safe and secure truck parking area must have them, but no complete list exists. Check the location's amenity list or operator page, confirm opening hours and ask about the fee, which varies by site.
How do I find a truck stop with showers on my route?
First, open the free truck parking map and zoom to the stretch of road you will drive. Second, open a location's detail card and read its amenity list, which shows showers, toilets, restaurant, shop, wifi, laundry, wash and repair where the data has them. The map has no shower filter, and amenity data can be incomplete, so a missing shower may mean unknown rather than none.
Third, check the operator's own page or phone the site. Fourth, compare with a second source. The Truck Parking Europe app describes a comfort category that includes showers, and TransParking lists facilities such as showers for each parking. For Germany, what an Autohof is and what it offers is worth knowing, because the range of facilities differs from one Autohof to the next.
Which truck parking areas must have showers?
Every certified safe and secure truck parking area (SSTPA) in the EU must offer working showers with warm water, cleaned and checked daily. This comes from Annex I, Section A, Table 1 of Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/1012 of 7 April 2022 , which applies at every certification level from Bronze to Platinum. The same table requires separate male and female facilities.
The rule has limits. The regulation does not set a shower price or opening hours, and it covers certified areas only, not every truck stop. Our guide to the EU safe and secure truck parking regulation explains how certification works.
What should I check before relying on a shower?
Check three things: that the shower exists, that it is open when you arrive, and what it costs. Fees vary by site. Read the operator page or ask at the counter. One user-edited Truckfly listing for a German Autohof says the shower is free with a fuel purchase and charged otherwise, so read the listing terms before you assume either.
Opening hours deserve the same care. Trade press such as Verkehrsrundschau has reported drivers complaining about closed showers on German motorways. Amenities, hours and fees change, and this information was last checked on 2026-11-05.
Frequently asked questions
Do all truck stops in Europe have showers?
No. Only certified safe and secure truck parking areas are required by EU rules to provide showers, and other sites may have none. Check the amenity list or operator page for each stop.
How much does a shower cost at a truck stop in Europe?
It depends on the operator and the site. Each operator sets its own fee and can change it, so check the operator page or ask on arrival.
Are truck stop showers open 24 hours?
Not always. Opening hours are set by the operator, and the EU regulation does not fix them. Confirm the hours before you plan a rest stop around a shower.
Can I shower for free at a truck stop?
Sometimes. One user-edited Truckfly listing for a German Autohof says the shower is free with a fuel purchase, but terms differ by site and change over time, so ask before you rely on it.
To plan a rest stop before you drive, browse truck parking in Germany by location and read each card's amenity list.
