Czech motorways had 144 rest areas with 3,485 truck parking spaces at the end of 2024, and the country was 1,898 truck spaces short, according to the Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ) release dated 2025-11-10 . Plan every break and rest period with that gap in mind.
Where can trucks park on the D1 between Prague, Brno and Ostrava?
D1 rest areas were already overcrowded in 2022. At Pávov Right, which has 15 truck spaces, as many as 59 additional trucks parked on an average working day, the NKÚ audit found. The NKÚ says other D1 rest areas show similar overcrowding, but the release names none of them.
Truck traffic on Czech motorways grew by 35% between 2015 and 2024, per the same audit. The government target was 1,500 new truck spaces by 2023, and only 407 were built on the existing network by then.
An information system showing free spaces, with reservations, was due by 2020. The NKÚ says it was still not publicly accessible at the turn of 2024 and 2025. Drivers arriving from Poland can read our guide to truck parking on the Polish A2, A4 and S8 for the leg before the border.
What happens at Rozvadov on the D5 toward Germany?
Rozvadov sits on the D5 close to the German border. Trans.info reported on 2025-09-08 that the largest Czech rest area is being expanded to 509 truck spaces in total, 206 on the side toward Germany and 303 toward Plzeň. The project costs about CZK 648 million, and completion was planned for the second half of 2026.
ČT24 reported on 2026-07-01 that the road directorate ŘSD closed most of the rest area, and truck drivers temporarily lost about 100 spaces. The report gives no completion date, and we could not confirm that the works are finished as of 2026-11-06.
One rule applies everywhere. On a Czech motorway a driver may stop or park only at places marked as parking areas (Road Traffic Act 361/2000 Sb., s. 36(1)(a)). Fine amounts are not covered here. Weekend and holiday restrictions are covered in our guide to Czech truck driving ban times .
What truck parking is there on the D8 from Prague to Dresden?
We found no verified truck-space figure for any D8 rest area, so this article quotes none. The table sums up what we could verify per corridor.
| Corridor | What is verified |
|---|---|
| D1 | Pávov Right: 15 truck spaces, up to 59 extra trucks on a 2022 working day (NKÚ) |
| D5 Rozvadov | 509 spaces planned in total; most of the rest area closed, reported 2026-07-01 |
| D8 | No verified truck-space figure |
For the D8 and the rest of the network, our free Czech parking map needs no login and lists parkings and fuel stations, with facilities on each card where source data has them. It has no live occupancy outside Germany, it is not a navigator, it takes no bookings, and it has no amenity filter for parkings.
