Truck parking in the Netherlands has two tiers: Rijkswaterstaat says motorway service areas are for short breaks, and long rests belong at secured private truck parks. Maasvlakte Plaza in the Rotterdam port lists 569 spaces and 24-hour opening (Port of Rotterdam, May 2021).
Where can trucks park around Rotterdam?
The Port of Rotterdam page, dated May 2021, lists 87 spaces for hazardous goods and 113 for LHV and ECO combinations. The site has showers, toilets and a restaurant seating 175. Security covers fencing and access control, with CCTV.
The tariff on that page is dated 2019. The first 2 hours of each visit are free, and so is 06:00 to 20:00. From Monday 06:00 to Friday 20:00, the night charge (20:00 to 06:00) is EUR 1.20 per hour, capped at EUR 12.00 per day. From Friday 20:00 to Monday 06:00 it is EUR 1.55 per hour, capped at EUR 15.50 per day. Confirm current rates on site.
A new secure truck park planned at Maasvlakte is expected to add 483 spaces. Industry estimates put the national shortage at around 4,400 HGV spaces, and the ministry reserved EUR 43 million from 2027 for more parking (trans.info, 2026-09-23). Our report on the shortage has the detail. Figures here were checked on 2026-11-06.

Where can trucks park around Venlo?
Venlo is a busy freight hub on the A67 and A73. This guide gives no Venlo capacity, security or price because none could be verified, so check secured private truck parks before you arrive. The free Netherlands parking map shows truck parking and fuel stops from open data (OpenStreetMap and Fraunhofer/KAMO), needs no login and lists facilities only where the data has them. It has no live occupancy for the Netherlands, takes no bookings and is not a navigator.
Can trucks park on service areas or the hard shoulder overnight?
Not on the hard shoulder, and service areas are not meant for a night. Rijkswaterstaat says service areas suit short breaks only, and that parking on slip roads or the hard shoulder is dangerous and watched by its road inspectors. Article 43 of the RVV 1990 bans stopping on a motorway carriageway and bans using the hard shoulder except in emergencies.
