You need one app per job, not one app for everything: a truck-profile navigator, a parking finder, a toll account, and your tachograph as the legal record of your hours. The rules for that last job tightened recently. From 2026-07-01, EU-registered light commercial vehicles (LCVs) over 2.5 t in international transport need a version 2 smart tachograph and fall under the driving and rest time rules, according to the European Commission . This list goes through navigation, parking, fuel, bans, tolls, driving hours, border queues and translation, with free versus paid notes and, for the main picks, a "skip it if" line. Features and prices were checked on 2026-11-05, and store prices change by region, so confirm them before you pay.
Which apps are worth installing, job by job?
One or two apps per job cover most drivers. The table below is the short version, and the sections after it explain each pick and its limits.
| Job | App(s) worth installing | Free or paid | What to watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Navigation | TomTom GO Expert, Sygic Truck, Eurowag Navigation | Paid or trial; TomTom and Eurowag price on store page | Check weight and height data on your own route |
| Parking | Toll4Europe app, Logifie /parking and /sid-parking | Logifie free; Toll4Europe free with its On-Board Unit | Live occupancy is limited to Germany; no booking in Logifie |
| Fuel | Fuel card apps (DKV, Eurowag), Logifie /fuel | Card apps: check store page; Logifie free | Logifie shows weekly country averages, not station prices |
| Bans and holidays | Truck Ban Checker (nakordoni), Logifie /holidays | Ban app: price on store page; Logifie free | A holiday calendar is not a full ban rule list |
| Tolls | Toll Collect TollNow, Toll4Europe app, DKV Box Europe (an on-board unit, not an app) | TollNow: price on store page | Each system covers its own country or network |
| Driving hours | Your tachograph and driver card; companion apps | Companion apps vary | No app replaces the tachograph record |
| Border queues | Kordon Online (nakordoni) | Price on store page | Wait times are estimates |
| Translation | Google Translate, DeepL | Free to download | Offline use needs a prior language download |
Which truck navigation app should you pay for?
Pay for a truck-profile navigator with offline maps, and pick it by trial rather than by review score. Three options cover most routes, and TomTom and Sygic both offer a free trial. For a full head-to-head, see our navigation app comparison .
TomTom GO Expert routes by truck height, weight and cargo, saves a profile per vehicle, refreshes offline maps over Wi-Fi weekly, and supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The free trial needs no credit card, and the page states no price, so check the store page. Skip it if you want a single clear price on the vendor page.
Sygic Truck & Caravan routes by vehicle size, weight and trailer, includes HAZMAT settings, and adds offline maps, speed camera warnings and fuel prices along the route. On the UK App Store on 2026-11-05, Truck Europe was listed at GBP 8.99 a month, with a 7-day Premium trial. Some in-app prices on the listing look duplicated, and several reviews complain about CarPlay launching and weight-limit accuracy on the map. Skip it if you rely on CarPlay and cannot test it first.
Eurowag Navigation warns on low bridges, weight limits and restricted roads, and shows about 18,000 Eurowag-network fuel stations with parking filters for showers or secured areas. The source is a vendor blog dated 2026-10-14, so treat the coverage claim (more than 52 countries and territories) as a feature claim. The page does not say which features are free. Skip it if you do not use Eurowag cards, since its station layer centres on that network.
Logifie is not a turn-by-turn navigator. Its map hands the destination to an external app such as Sygic Truck, TomTom, Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps.
What is the best way to find truck parking, and what does free cover?
Use a dedicated parking finder with a live layer where one exists, and treat any free map as a planning aid. Parking is the job where free options go furthest, but live occupancy is rare outside Germany. The parking app comparison covers the paid and bookable apps in detail.
The Toll4Europe app lists more than 2,200 parking spaces in Germany and shows real-time occupancy for about 1,000 of them. It is free as an add-on to the On-Board Unit, and the page names only Google Play, so iPhone users should check availability. Skip it if you do not run a Toll4Europe unit.
Logifie offers two free web tools without a login. The truck parking and fuel station map covers 31 countries with a parking layer and a gas station layer. A detail card shows attributes such as showers, capacity or opening hours when the record has them. It has no live occupancy and no booking function, and a "bookable" attribute is data only. The Germany live parking map shows green, amber, red and grey pins for roughly 1,850 motorway rest areas, refreshed every 60 seconds from the federal SID feed published by Toll Collect. Values can lag real conditions by several minutes, and a green pin does not guarantee a space on arrival.
How do you check fuel prices, bans and holidays?
Use your fuel card app for station prices and a national source for ban rules, then add a free tool for the wider picture. Station prices come from your fuel card app or your navigator, so check what each one shows before relying on it.
Fuel prices and AdBlue
Eurowag Navigation lists about 18,000 Eurowag-network stations; for other networks, check the app of your own fuel card provider. Store pages carry current download terms, so check them before relying on a "free" claim.
Logifie's fuel price page shows country-level average petrol and diesel prices from the European Commission Weekly Oil Bulletin, published once a week on Thursdays. It is useful for deciding where to buy in a multi-country trip. It does not show station-level or real-time prices, AdBlue prices, or fuel card discounts. The parking map does let you filter gas stations by accepted fuel cards.
Weekend bans and public holidays
For truck bans, nakordoni lists a Truck Ban Checker app on the App Store and Google Play . Its coverage and price were not verified, so confirm both on the store page.
Logifie's holiday calendar shows public holidays by country and year in list or calendar view, with a regional flag where a holiday applies only to some areas. It does not give full Sunday or weekend truck-ban rules by country. Check the national authority notice for the countries on your route, because ban rules differ and change.
How do you handle tolls and trip costs from your phone?
Log on and pay through the toll operator or your toll provider, and use a calculator only to estimate cost. Apps for tolls are national or provider-based, so expect two or three on a long international trip.
Toll Collect TollNow lets you log on to a German route from a smartphone or tablet, alongside the On-Board Unit and advance log-on. The page states no price, so see the store page. The Toll4Europe app shows OBU status, booked toll services, stored vehicle data and a border-crossing reminder. DKV Box Europe is an EETS on-board unit billed on the DKV invoice, not an app, so check its coverage on the DKV site.
For planning, Logifie's transport cost calculator works out carrier cost per loaded kilometre, with tolls averaged per country for 23 countries. It uses official 2026 tariffs, excludes bridges, tunnels and private concession motorways, and is not route-exact. You type the diesel price yourself. It is a cost estimate and not toll billing or a shipper quote.
Do you still need a driving hours app?
Yes, if you want a companion for planning, but the tachograph and driver card remain the legal record. Treat any phone app as a planning aid only. Since 2025-08-19, EU-registered heavy vehicles working outside their registration state must have a version 2 smart tachograph, according to the European Commission . The LCV change on 2026-07-01 brings a new group of drivers under Regulation (EC) 561/2006.
Manufacturer apps such as the VDO Driver and VDO Fleet apps from Continental pair with a compatible DTCO over Bluetooth, and the newer one needs a recent DTCO version. Prices were not verified, and VDO Fleet looks fleet-oriented, so owner-drivers should confirm what they need before installing.
The free Logifie Driver Assistant app has an hours tracker with five activity types and nine compliance checks based on Regulation (EC) 561/2006 and Directive 2002/15/EC. It stores data only on the phone and exports CSV or XLSX. It is not a tachograph, logbook or legal compliance tool, and it does not read tachograph data. Skip it if you need a record an inspector will accept.
Are there apps for border queues and translation?
Yes, for estimates and for basic conversations, but neither replaces official notices. Both jobs work best when you treat the output as a guide.
Border queue apps
The nakordoni site and its Kordon Online app draw on Ukrainian sources, so treat them as a Ukraine-border tool. They build truck wait estimates from the Ukrainian State Border Guard, the eCherha electronic queue, TomTom traffic data and driver reports. As an example snapshot taken on 2026-11-05 at 08:29 , it listed a Krakivets truck wait of about 72 hours with 1,282 vehicles in the queue. The site notes the figure is measured by the electronic queue and not by a physical line. Treat any such number as an estimate that ages within hours.
Translation apps
Google Translate works offline only for languages you download first over Wi-Fi, which can use mobile data and may cost roaming charges. Some downloaded languages also support camera translation. DeepL mobile apps are free to download, but offline use was not confirmed, so assume you need a connection.
The Logifie Driver Assistant interface runs in 15 languages (EN, DE, FR, PL, UA, RO, ES, PT, IT, NL, SE, NO, FI, DK, TR), which helps with menus. It is not a translator.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best apps for truck drivers in Europe?
It depends on the job. A truck-profile navigator such as TomTom GO Expert, Sygic Truck or Eurowag Navigation, a parking finder, a toll account and your tachograph cover the core tasks. The table above lists a pick for each of eight jobs.
Are there free apps for truck drivers in Europe?
Yes, for parking, fuel averages, holidays and translation. Navigation with a truck profile is usually paid or trial-based. Logifie's parking map, fuel page and holiday calendar are free to use, and the parking maps need no login.
Can a phone app replace the tachograph?
No. The tachograph and driver card remain the legal record under Regulation (EC) 561/2006. Phone apps work as companions for planning breaks and rest.
Which app shows live truck parking occupancy?
In Germany, the SID live map and the Toll4Europe app show real-time occupancy. Outside Germany, live occupancy is rare, so a free map shows locations and facilities but not free spaces.
Do I need a separate app for each toll system?
Often yes. TollNow covers German log-on, and other countries use their own systems or an EETS provider. Check your toll provider for the countries on your route.
Are border queue times reliable?
They are estimates. The nakordoni figure above is a snapshot from 2026-11-05 and changes within hours, so check it again before you leave.
Is a diesel price app worth installing?
A fuel card app is worth it if you use that card, since it shows network stations. For planning, the country averages show which country is cheaper but not what the pump charges.
Install one navigator after a trial, one parking source, and your toll account, and keep the tachograph as your hours record. To plan parking and fuel stops before you drive, open the truck parking and fuel station map and check the countries on your route.
